Superlative sind eigentlich zu klein für Jaco Pastorius. Denn die Massstäbe seiner Revolution des E-Bass im Jazz sind vor und nach seinem Tod 1987 unerreicht. Auf dem Doppelalbum "Punk Jazz" ist das verwirrende Kaleidoskop seiner Virtuosität zu hören: Free Rock im "Triologue" mit Albert Mangelsdorff, singend im Flageolett-Stil bei "Continuum", unglaublich komplexe Harmoniewechsel mit Pat Metheny in "Dream" und tropische Exotik bei "Nativity". Sogar J. S. Bach, und zwar die "Chromatische Fantasie" in Schallgeschwindigkeit, hat Jaco sich zu eigen gemacht. Eine phantastische Anthologie.
